Meet our Guest Artist Maria Garcia

María has gained recognition as a soloist, collaborative pianist and teacher. Praised for her “dynamic, warmly expressive and exciting style” she was All Classical Radio’s 2022-2023 Artist in Residence and has recorded solo and chamber works for All Classical’s Recording Inclusivity Initiative. Currently, she holds the position of Linfield College’s new Artist in Residence. 

She began piano studies in her native Puerto Rico at the age of four, making her debut with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra at ten. She holds a Bachelor of Music with Distinction in Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and completed her Master’s degree as well as Doctoral Studies (ABD) at SUNY Stony Brook. Her principal teachers were Luz Hutchinson, Victor Rosenbaum and Gilbert Kalish.
 
Maria has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Israel, South America, and Tunisia. Locally she collaborates with 45th Parallel Universe, Third Angle, the Oregon Symphony, and Oregon Ballet Theatre, and was a founding member of the Award-winning 20 Digitus Duo. During the summer she serves as the Piano Program Director at YMA.
