    ABOUT THE MUSIC

Verdi’s La Forza del Destino Overture (1869)

Thrilling, dramatic, and instantly recognizable, Verdi’s La Forza del Destino Overture sets the stage with its iconic Fate motif—three striking brass chords that echo throughout the piece. Added in 1869 during a major revision of the opera, this powerful overture captures the sweeping emotion and tragic inevitability of Verdi’s tale of love and fate. A concert favorite for good reason!

    Menotti’s Apocalisse (1951)

Known for his operas, Gian Carlo Menotti surprises with Apocalisse—a rare, bold orchestral work in three vivid movements. From the haunting intensity of Improperia, to the radiant calm of La Città Celeste, and the mysterious, triumphant energy of Gli Angeli Militanti, this powerful piece moves from darkness to light, culminating in a final, victorious return of its opening theme. A gripping and emotional musical journey.

    Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor (1877–1878)

Raw, emotional, and intensely personal, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony confronts fate head-on. From its iconic brass opening to its fiery, folk-inspired finale, the work journeys through despair, nostalgia, whimsy, and ultimately triumph. A masterwork of Romantic expression, it showcases Tchaikovsky at his most vulnerable—and most powerful.
